Dominic Collett - One Stop Shop Investment Centre Opening2017-12-07 On the 18 November 201, we celebrated a significant milestone in boosting the KZN economy by attracting investment through the establishment of a 'One Stop Shop' for investors, who will be welcomed and guided through the bureaucratic procedures of establishing and expanding their business operations in the province.
KZN's and specifically Durban's competitiveness in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) has been compared with dissatisfaction to other major cities such as Cape Town and Johannesburg. Current investment indicators show that 34% of foreign direct investments in projects go to Johannesburg. Durban is currently sitting at only 4%. This sub-optimal performance has largely been attributed to barriers to doing business in the province, mainly around permits for water and electricity services, as well as tax issues. Thus, the establishment of the One Stop Shop in KZN is most welcome by the business community as it helps in unlocking opportunities for business growth in the region. The centre is envisaged to strengthen KZN's value proposition to investors as a preferred destination for investment. It will also attract new markets into the province through creating a conducive environment for trade and investment, thus making KZN an investment gateway to Africa and the world. A huge amount of work has gone into establishing this investment centre.
