Innovative Products and Services
The Buckman Laboratories' focus is on continual improvement in processes and technologies, and dedication to their customers.These unique requirements, have culminated in the development of new products for the pulp and paper industry including high bright (OBA) applications,enzymes for fiber modification, stickies, and pitch control, new scale control and defoamer chemistries, high tech dry strength resin applications and specialty sizing options. In the creping industry, novel adhesion and release aids are being utilized.A full range of water treatment chemistries, services, and technologies is also provided for paper mills with a new leak detection system available for black liquor recovery boilers.
Buckman Laboratories has introduced innovative enzyme technology for the leather industry. In addition to the traditional microbiocides and dispersants supplied to this industry, Buckman has become a leader in specialty syntan applications for the manufacture of shoe upper and furniture leather. Further capabilities include the application of dyes, fat liquors and finishing systems.
Hammarsdale Operation
The South African head office and manufacturing site is based in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal, with additional offices in Bedfordview and various customer sites providing employment to over 220 people nationally.

Training and Development
The significant shortage of skills within the SouthAfrican economy and our industry, coupled with our internal code of ethics which supports the growth and development of our associates,has renewed our commitment to the enhancement of our workforce skills and education levels. To meet this challenge,we plan to not only spend 3% of payroll costs on the training and development of our associates, but have also recently launched a talent management strategy to ensure all associates unleash their full potential.
Corporate Social Investment
Corporate Social Investment has always been important to the associates and management of Buckman Laboratories. We have proudly granted tertiary educations bursaries to both children of employees and external applicants. The apparent needs of the local community bordering our Hammarsdale facility have captured our attention and have been the focus of our efforts in a variety of ways over the years. Our spend focuses on projects and initiatives that have a positive impact on the Hammarsdale community in particular. In addition,we have partnered withThusang Sizani, a local NGO formed to assist those affected and infected by HIV/Aids and have made a considerable impact on their ability to fulfil their mission.
