LEADING COATED STEEL TECHNOLOGY
The Safal Group is the leading supplier of metal coated coils, pre-painted coils, metal roof sheeting and long steel products in Sub Saharan Africa.
The Safal Group is the first in Africa to have set up coating mills, producing Aluminium-Zinc coated steel. The Group made a decision to establish a new company called Safal Steel (Pty) Ltd in the Cato Ridge KZN area, in line with the Group's growth strategy.
SAFAL STEEL (PTY) LTD
Situated in Cato Ridge, the plant is central for distribution to all major regions, as well as the ports for exports to Africa, Europe, Central and South America, the Indian Ocean Islands and Australasia.
The company manufactures metal coated steel coils under license to the BIEC International Inc., which is the world licensor and acknowledged leader in technologies associated with 55% Al-ZN coated steel. Safal produces either un-painted coils, branded ZincALŪ or pre-painted coils, branded ColorPLUSŪ.
AZ coating provides an even longer service life and increases the durability of themild steel core. This technique has been extensively researched and the proven performance surpasses that of traditional galvanised steel.
Our products ZincALŪ and ColorPLUSŪ are sold into the manufacturing/industrial sector where our customers either role form, with the end use of either roofing or wall cladding, or the product is sold into the general engineering sector with a multitude of uses.
Safal Steel offers a homologation of services; our Mill is set up to complete the following services:
-
Pickling and Oiling
-
Cold Rolling Mill
-
Metal Coating Line
-
Colour Coating Line
The benefit of these internal services and partnerships ensures the costs remain competitive.
Safal's vision is to be the premium supplier of metal coated and pre-painted coils by offering innovative solutions to the communities we serve in. We endeavour to recruit from the community employing over 300 staff of various technical capabilities from the immediate community and surrounding urban areas. With an estimated 150 000 tons material output, the contribution to the KZN economy is a minimum R150-million annually.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATION
Safal Steel is known for its world class processes and conformance to environmental standards and the new production facility is based on these principles. In line with this commitment they have joined the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) as silver founding members. Every effort has been made to minimise resource consumption e.g. The Acid Regeneration Plant linked to the Pickling and Oiling Line, the Regenerative Thermal Oxidiser liked to our Colour Coating Line; and to minimise waste generation, the multi stage effluent treatment process including reverse osmosis is in place. Plans have been approved to establish a full waste sorting and recycling facility partnering with the Reclamation Group.
COMMUNITY
Safal Steel embarked on a "Lap desk" distribution initiative with the local schools in the community. The venture was well received and as such various other International Group Companies invested in the same campaign.
