Tata Steels involvement with Chrome started over 58 years ago when Chromite Ore was discovered in Sukinda Valley, Orissa. Tata Steel emerged as the largest player in all aspects of the value chain of Chrome Business in India. In line with its growth aspiration; a plant is currently being constructed in Richards Bay, South Africa. Richards Bay is the biggest and most efficient port in South Africa and was identified as the ideal location for this operation because of efficiency. The business model of the plant include taking high quality Chrome Ore from India and elsewhere, convert it into Ferro Chrome in Richards Bay, and export the finished product to various customer destinations.
