ZDM TO SPEND R1.5-M ON CLASSROOMS AND A CRECHE IN PONGOLA
The Zululand District Municipality in partnership with the Devine Life Society of South Africa is to spend more than R1.5-million for the construction of three classrooms at Selinde Primary School at Stilo and a crèche in Belgrade near Pongola.
This was announced by the Honourable Mayor of Zululand District Municipality, Cllr VZ KaMagwaza-Msibi in a sod-turning ceremony held at this school. The ceremony, among others, was attended by a team from Devine Life Society led by Professor P Pillay, the Mayor of Uphongolo Municipality, Cllr Mashiya Hadebe, and the Principal of the School Ms Bongiwe Shabalala and members of the community including teachers.
Speaking at the sod-turning ceremony KaMagwaza-Msibi said: “To serve people is an honour to me because I have always wanted to know what I can do to assist people. I am happy to say that we have contributed a lot in improving the lives of other people”.
KaMagwaza-Msibi said the school project would cost more than R1.2-million while the Qhubekani Creche project in Ward 5 at Belgrade , it is estimated that the latter project will take more than R250 000 to complete. KaMagwaza-Msibi urged those who will be responsible for recruiting people for these projects to give preference to the poorest of the poor.
Reacting to this gesture Principal of Selinde Primary, Ms Shabalala thanked ZDM Mayor and the Devine Life Society and said the three additional classrooms to the existing four will make a great difference in her school.
A local soccer club, as well as the school’s team were presented with soccer kits. Two sewing machines were also left for the community to learn sewing. At Belgrade, Enqabeni Soccer Team was also presented with a soccer kit.
The association between ZDM and Devine Life Society has resulted in the completion of more than 400 projects in the Zululand District in the past years.
