Durban Chamber - Environmental Affairs Forum: Building an iconic reputation as a green city

The Forum is chaired by chaired by Sandra Redelinghuys (Engen) and the vice chair is Alison Haycock(FFS Refiners).

The Goals and Objectives of this forum are:

• To provide information and facilitate learning on environmental legislation which affects our members;
• To promote sustainability amongst the membership;
• To create a network of members who promote and teach environmental awareness and exhibit environmental practices in their businesses; and
• To promote compliance with environmental legislation and regulation.

The Terms of Reference for the forum is:

• Identify and recommend action on matters of an environmental nature which affects the DCCI and its members.
• Encourage members to build partnerships and create local information and learning networks for sharing experiences and knowledge of sustainability issues with all stakeholders.
• Assist in developing the capacities of Chamber staff, Chamber members and their employees, to promote understanding of the principles of sustainability.
• Encourage members to provide training and resources to develop employees and build competencies related to environmental and social responsibilities.
• Reinforce effective two-way communication between Members of the Committee and the Durban Chamber.
• Inform members of the Chamber of pertinent issues and developments of an environmental nature within the greater Durban area.
• Keep abreast of relevant environmental legislation and network this amongst Chamber members.
• Encourage measurement and audit of environmental performance; compliance with company requirements; legal requirements and these principles.
• Periodically gather and report key indicators and information relevant to Local, Provincial and National Government requirements in the appropriate manner.
• Foster responsibility, accountability and transparency between the Members of the Committee and the Durban Chamber.
• Notwithstanding all of the above, any comments on Environmental Impact Assessments, public comments or press statements, made by the Committee, will be directed to the DCCI President’s Committee for approval, prior to release.
• The committee shall meet at least 5 times per year.
• These Terms of Reference shall be reviewed periodically and when considered necessary, due to legal or market changes, and thereafter submitted to the Board of Management for approval.

The 2016 meeting dates are:

03 March | 05 May |09 June | 18 August | 13 October
