The Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry Safety and Justice Forum is chaired by Peter Feuilherade (Cox Yeats Attorneys).

The Goals and Objectives of this forum are:

To develop a deeper understanding of issues of safety and justice as they impact on our members, in order to take a policy position and build the necessary liaison structure;
To identify organisations (both private and non-governmental sectors) to collaborate with in developing safety and justice best practice, as well as developing a liaison at local, provincial and national government level;
To facilitate an understanding of the private security industry, so that our members may engage with this sector on a more informed basis; and
To respond to relevant policy and regulations which may impact the Forum and its members.

The Terms of Reference for the forum are:

To identify and to promote awareness among members of threats in all forms to the safety and security of membersâ€™ businesses and their personnel and physical assets, including threats of physical crime, fraudulent activities and corruption.
To identify measures necessary to avert, minimise or cope with such threats.
To serve as a forum for the receipt, exchange, discussion and communication of relevant information for consideration of membersâ€™ problems and for the formulation of advice and guidelines to members.
To articulate the views of the business community with regard to the efficacy of the Criminal Justice System including, but not limited to the police services and the Departments of Justice, Correctional Services, Social Development and the National Prosecution Authority.
To proactively assist in creating and maintaining a secure climate in its areas of influence so that normal business activity can take place.
To constructively interface with all authorities and lobbying groups which are involved in combating crime.
The committee shall meet at least 5 times per year.
These Terms of Reference shall be reviewed periodically and when considered necessary, due to legal or market changes, and thereafter submitted to the Board of Management for approval.

The 2016 meeting dates are:

26 February | 22 April | 24 June | 19 August | 21 October
