ETHEKWINI CELEBRATES GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK

In recognition of the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), eThekwini Municipality in partnership with KPMG and Shanduka Black Umbrellas will be hosting a number of business seminars around the City from 17 – 23 November in 2014.
The aim of these seminars is to promote small businesses in the City and provide them with access to new information, support and opportunities to network with other potential entrepreneurs. Parts of the activities of the week are site visit to tourism attractions to explore business opportunities within the tourism sector.
Deputy Mayor Cllr Nomvuzo Shabalala said the Municipality is pleased to partner with the well experienced financial institutions. This will help our small businesses to be more exposed to various business skills that will empower them to become competitive globally.
“Most businesses are failing because they lack innovation and creativity. We believe that the involvement of companies like KPMG and Shanduka Ambrellas will bring more experience which will enable small businesses to come up with bright ideas that will improve their business performance,†she said.
Global Entrepreneurship Week is about celebrating and recognising the contribution made by local entrepreneurs to our community.
Farouk Ebrahim, Management Consulting Partner of KPMG said that this is the perfect platform to assist in moving entrepreneurs along the spectrum from a dream or idea to actually launching a viable start-up business.
“It is our hope that aspirant and newly-formed small businesses will embrace the week, which is the largest entrepreneurship campaign in the world, to grow in know-how and motivation to start up and build their own businesses,†adds Ebrahim.
These business management seminars will be spread out over a five day period at various venues in Durban and will focus more on access to markets, funding, financial management, tax compliance, tender processes and many more.
