EMPOWERMENT OF INK LOCAL BUSINESSES
In a move to empower township businesses, the eThekwini Municipality will, from Tuesday 17/03/15, host a series of workshops to impart skills to local shop owners on how to run successful businesses.
The workshops are part of a multi-lateral intervention to deal with tensions between local shop owners and foreign nationals who own spaza shops especially in the Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu (INK) areas.
The workshops will deliberate on pertinent issues like bulk buying and also include informative presentations from various Municipal departments like Business Support, Business Licensing, Environmental Health, Durban Solid Waste, Town Planning and Fire and Emergency Services.
This crucial sessions form part of the Municipality’s interventions to curb the spread of xenophobia related attacks after local business owners complained that foreign owned businesses were taking away their livelihood. Mayor James Nxumalo has initiated an intervention involving different Municipal departments, Provincial Government, local business forum and representatives of foreign nationals. A task team is currently looking into developing a policy for regulating the opening of businesses in townships, especially by foreign nationals.
Members of the media are invited to the first workshop as follows:
Date : 17 March 2015
