eThekwini Municipality - THE SEARCH IS ON FOR THE CITY’S NEXT GOSPEL STAR

EThekwini Municipality representatives accompanied by music icons, Thulani Ga Ndlela, Thina Zungu and DJ HappyGal will travel the length and breadth of the City, searching for the next gospel singing sensation.
Young gospel music artists who have what it takes to record hit gospel songs will have the opportunity to be heard by the 2015 Gospel Icons Discovery competition’s talent search crew who will be holding auditions in different areas, starting in KwaMashu C-Section on Saturday, 01 August 2015.
Lucky finalists, who make it past the preliminary round, will have the opportunity to showcase their skills at the grand finale to be held on Sunday, 27 September 2015 at Ohlange Sports Ground, where the winner will be announced.
The winner of the 2015 Gospel Icons Discovery competition will walk away with a full recording contract and R10 000. The first runner-up will receive a three-song recording deal with R5 000 and the second runner-up will receive a three-song recording deal with R3 000.
The competition, which has been around for three years, has had brilliant results. The 2013 winner, Bongani Mchunu is currently promoting his album titled: “Ujesu Usenjalo†and has recently headlined his own show titled: “Bongani and Friendsâ€. Mabusi Gcabashe, the 2014 winner, also recently released her album, “Uthembekileâ€. She is also featured in Malusi Mbokazi’s live CD and DVD recording at the Playhouse. Both winners were mentored by and toured with Thina Zungu.
Auditions start at 8am and the schedule is as follows:
01 August 2015: KwaMashu C Hall
02 August 2015: Ntuzuma A Hall / Lindelani
08 August 2015: K-Kap, KwaMashu
09 August 2015: Newtown A Hall
15 August 2015: uMlazi V-Section Hall
16 August 2015: Kwagoqokazi Hall, Ematikwe
22 August 2015: Clermont Community Hall - KwaSizakala
23 August 2015: Besters Hall, Inanda
05 September 2015: Stable Theatre, Central
06 September 2015: Redfern Community Hall, Phoenix
12 September 2015: Wiggins Hall, Cato Manor
13-18 September 2015: Stable Theatre (Workshop Week)
21-25 September 2015: Stable Theatre (Rehearsals Week)
The Municipality encourages all aspirant gospel artists to participate in the auditions and stand a chance to be the next big star to fly the Durban flag high.
