Development rush in KZN…

Property development company, the eLan Group is upbeat about KwaZulu-Natal becoming the country’s next big property story. And despite the recent economic downturn; development activity in the region is fast gaining momentum with large interest around tourism and residential development.
eLan Group CEO Mark Taylor says, “This progress is happening largely in response to a greater infrastructure development strategy which includes the King Shaka International Airport, the Durban harbour widening and the stunning Moses Mabhida football stadium.”
The new King Shaka International Airport just north of Durban, has the potential to boost property prices by stimulating international and domestic traffic to the province. This will in turn create a surge in the buy-to-let arena as foreigners peg their place in the sun. Taylor said, “The new airport will ultimately bring the global economy to our doorstep.”
Durban boasts the attractive Moses Mabhida stadium which stands guard over the city’s popular beachfront. Completion is expected later this month, seven months before the first whistle blows at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. New stadia are known to boost residential property growth. The 2002 Barcelona Olympics culminated in 60 000 UK citizens buying homes in Spain and following the 1996 World Cup in France, property prices escalated by as much as 55% over the ensuing year. Property across Paris made astronomical gains with the prices of apartments close to some stadia rocketing by over 100% over the same period.
“We are expecting the same result in KwaZulu-Natal,” said Taylor, “and our province has so much more to offer with value for money coastal property, excellent tourist attractions, convenient tourism facilities and a year round warm climate.”
The KZN North Coast also has a lot to offer tourists and is likely to attract greater foreign interest especially with the proliferation of residential estates such as eLan’s Blythedale Coastal Resort. “Both offer fantastic investment opportunities with enormous growth potential. Given the road to 2010, now is the time to buy,” said Taylor.
Blythedale Coastal Resort, just 45 minutes north of Durban and 20 minutes from the new airport, offers an accessible resort getaway. This 1000 hectare resort boasts two miles of unspoilt coastline and a pristine indigenous forest. Facilities include a hotel, equestrian centre, wellness centre, retirement component and a beach node. Land is selling from R750 000.
