Belgium - The VLIR-UOS Scholarships Academic Year 2019-2020

VLIR-UOS receives funding from the Belgian Development Cooperation (DGD). The DGD dedicates 5% of its funds to university cooperation for development, for partnerships and exchange between Belgian universities or university colleges and universities in a limited number of developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Ethiopia, DR Congo, Tanzania, Vietnam, Kenya, Uganda, Ecuador, Cuba, South Africa and Peru, being the most important ones.

VLIR-UOS supports a selection of development relevant master- and training programmes, organised at a Flemish university or university college ranking among the best in Europe. At present, VLIR-UOS funds 189 ongoing projects and ±1300 scholarships.

Master Programmes
The International Master Programmes are accredited (initial or complementary) Master programmes (EQF 7) of one or two years (60 or 120 ECTS) on a development relevant subject with a focus on innovative responses to global and local challenges.

The programmes have a specific but non-exclusive focus on participants from developing countries, to whose specific needs the teaching methods are adapted and, to a number of which, VLIRUOS awards scholarships for the duration of the programme.

Interested candidates can apply for a fully-fledged scholarship for the academic year 2019-2020 from November 2018 onwards.

Subjects: VLIR-UOS provides full scholarships for the total duration of the Master programme. It is not possible to apply for a partial scholarship.

International Training Programmes (ITP)
VLIR-UOS supports some training programmes with scholarships. The training programmes are selected by a commission of experts and the topics can differ from year to year. For 2018, the training programmes focus on: Spatial Development Planning Application deadlines are different for every programme.
