ITHALA MOVES TO POINT WATERFRONT
2015-11-16
Ithala Development Finance Corporation Limited (Ithala) Corporate Services Centre has moved into its newly completed Trade Centre building on Durban’s Point Waterfront. The modern working environment, situated at the gateway to the city signifies a new era for Ithala and inaugurates a new phase of ‘enabling dreams’ for generations to come.
The new offices boast a contemporary open plan design featuring environment friendly fittings and new technologies positioning Ithala for energy saving and smart communication. Furthermore, the installation of a generator and an emergency water supply ensure that services will not be interrupted.
The move from Umlazi will allow Ithala to be more easily in reach of its broader target market by being centrally located. However, having spent many years within the Umlazi community, Ithala is leaving a legacy by ensuring that the current building will be utilised in a way that directly benefits the people of the area.
“We very pleased that, following our call for proposals, a University of Technology will be taking over the premises. Ithala has long been entrenched in learnership, internship and bursary programmes so we are heartened by the fact that our facility will be utilised by a recognised learning institutionâ€, said Yvonne Zwane, Ithala Group Chief Executive.
“The presence of provincial government entities that will be joining us later this year and during 2016, will add to our objective of consolidating and harmonising our activities to become the host for a development hub that will rationalize service delivery to our clients.
Ithala’s property portfolio is central to its development mandate of job creation and economic upliftment of local communities. We see the Ithala Trade Centre as a flagship in our commercial portfolio and believe that this project will enhance the area by contributing to mixed use development, regeneration and growth on the Point Waterfrontâ€, added Zwane.
The “Big Move to Hopeâ€, as it is termed by employees within the organisation, speaks to a major milestone in Ithala’s repositioning strategy and the establishment of the Trade Centre points to the organisation’s success in re-asserting its development role.
