Mondi Group

Mondi is an international packaging and paper Group, employing around 26,000 people in production facilities across 31 countries. In 2013, Mondi had revenues of 6.5 billion and a ROCE of 15.3%. The Group’s key operations are located in central Europe, Russia, the Americas and South Africa.

The Mondi Group is fully integrated across the packaging and paper value chain - from the management of its own forests and the production of pulp and paper (packaging paper and uncoated fine paper), to the conversion of packaging paper into corrugated packaging, industrial bags, extrusion coatings and release liner. Mondi is also a supplier of innovative consumer packaging solutions, advanced films and hygiene products components.

Mondi has a dual listed company structure, with a primary listing on the JSE Limited for Mondi Limited and a premium listing on the London Stock Exchange for Mondi plc. The Group’s performance, and the responsible approach it takes to good business practice, has been recognised by its inclusion in the FTSE4Good Global, European and UK Index Series (since 2008) and the JSE’s Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) Index since 2007.

Mondi South Africa Division (MSAD)

MSAD has three business units - Forestry Operations in KwaZulu-Natal, a pulp and linerboard mill in Richards Bay and a paper mill in Merebank, Durban.

Mondi South Africa owns and manages one of the largest Forestry Stewardship Certified plantation units in the world. This means that the company’s plantations are managed in a responsible and sustainable manner.  Several of the non-afforested areas are managed for biodiversity and forest protection. These include important wetlands, grassland and indigenous forest ecosystems. Nineteen registered national heritage sites indicate the environmental importance of Mondi’s non-afforested areas.

The Richards Bay mill produces two key products: Baycel, a premier grade bleached hardwood pulp made from 100-percent eucalyptus fibre, and Baywhite, a white top kraft linerboard. Both are also FSC certified.

At Merebank, Mondi produces a range of high quality A4 office paper for domestic and international markets.  Mondi Rotatrim, the Better Performance Paper is South Africa’s leading brand of office paper and was the first A4 paper manufactured in South Africa to achieve a 160CIE whiteness and Forest Stewardship Council (FSCTM) certification. Mondi Shanduka Newsprint (MSN) is also located in Merebank and produces newsprint and telephone directory paper.
