“At Boxer Superstores we believe in building strong relationships of trust - both with staff members, many of whom are employed from the local community, and with members of the community who shop with us,” says Boxer Superstores Marketing Director, Andrew Mills.

From the company’s earliest days in the 1970s, when it originated as a conventional wholesale outlet under the name KwaZulu Cash & Carry, Boxer Superstores has grown into a major southern African retail chain with 150 stores across four distinct divisions.

Transforming rapidly from a traditional wholesaler, trading in basic commodities, Boxer soon began to present a broad retail offering, selling to consumers and informal traders as well as retailers. This strategy proved to be very successful and the company expanded with new stores opening in regions outside KZN.

2002, however, was a breakthrough year, with Pick n Pay acquiring Boxer Superstores, providing the critical mass to support rapid expansion, and seven new stores were opened within the next year. Boxer Superstores continues to expand into areas where they can serve the needs of the community through its wide product range, low prices and efficient customer friendly service, living up to their promise ‘Live the Value. Live the Life.’

Serving the Customer

The company takes great pride in stocking quality merchandise at affordable prices. Besides its groceries, bulk and commodities sections, Boxer stores include an in-store butchery; an in-house bakery with freshly-baked bread and confectionary, a hot foods section offering prepared meals and snack options and a fresh fruit and vegetable department.

Boxer also offers added-value services to their customers, including payment of TV licenses and electricity accounts through the electronic till points, and providing pension payouts in their stores, giving customers convenient access at stores situated in their areas. MTN’s low-cost banking services are now offered at Boxer Superstores countrywide, to send and receive money, withdraw, and pay for goods and services at prescribed outlets by using a cellphone.

“We are known for our commitment to giving the very best customer service that we can offer.” says Marketing Director, Andrew Mills. “Boxer Superstores has always been famous as the price-fighting champion of the people. Our aim is to make sure that our shoppers are able to ‘Live the Value. Live the Life.’ when shopping with us, all in the convenience of our one-stop shopping environment in friendly, efficient and reliable stores. Our customers have always come first; we believe that a satisfied customer is a loyal customer, and we hold our reputation high for delivering what we promise.”
