As part of our continuous fundraising strategy, The Black Information Technology Forum: KZN Chapter will be hosting a Golf Day at Mt Edgecombe Country Club Golf Course 1 on Tuesday, March 1st, 2016. Registration starts at 10:30am and tee off begins at 11:30am sharp (shot gun start).

The Black Information Technology Forum (BITF) is an association of black professionals that was formed specifically to address the poor representation of black people in the information and communications technology industry in South Africa. It seeks to promote the careers of both professionals and business operators whilst also helping to improve the access to technology in disadvantaged communities and empower those with skills in this field.

The Black Information Technology Forum was established in the Western Cape in 1995 and has gradually grown over the past decade.

In 1997, The Gauteng BITF was constituted. These two provinces then held bilateral discussions to form a national structure in October 1998. It was only in April 1999 that elections for a national body took place with chapters in all provinces of South Africa.

The BITF is accessible to members on either a professional, student or SMME level. Professionals are those who are employed within the ICT-E sector inclusive of management, service providers, vendors and educators and BITF provides a platform for member ICT-E professionals and industry leaders to engage with for technology and innovation sharing. Students are those studying towards a career within the industry - with students being exposed to prospective employers through skills development programs as well as receiving assistance within their institution to accelerate change. For SMME’s, BITF facilitates member ICT-E SMME development through technology/innovation hubs and SAitIS (South African Information Technology Industry Strategy Project) guidelines and methodologies.

All members are granted access to the highest quality forums for networking opportunities with experienced professionals and government officials as well as benefits provided by The Black Information Technology Forum through their strategic partnerships with top businesses and affiliate organizations that dedicate their time to assisting in the achievement of the mission and vision. At present, The BITF is active in the following organisations - ICT Charter Working Group, Business Unity South Africa, ISETT SITA and the Government Information Technology Officers’ Council. Other benefits include access to the latest development on BEE issues, access to a directory of BITF members as well as voting rights.

This Black Information Technology Forum: KZN Chapter Golf Day to be held on March 1st, not only serves as a fundraiser and call for new members, but also as an opportunity for members to engage with key players in the ICT industry such as stakeholders, provincial government leaders as well as SMME’s, academics and likeminded individuals. 

Members, as well as the public at large, are invited to play a 4 ball for only R6000 for a 4 ball which includes green fees, halfway house, prize giving dinner and entertainment. Other optionsare available at R15000 each for those wanting to sponsor the event. Option 1 includes sponsorship of the 1^st Tee box, 1x 4 ball and branding; Option 2 includes sponsorship of the 18^th green, 1x 4 ball and branding and Option 3 includes sponsorship of the 10^th Tee box, 1x 4 ball and branding. As this event is a members-only event, the public are encouraged to apply for membership before proceeding to purchase tickets.

All funds raised will be utilized in bridging the digital divide though community outreach projects, that of one day seminars in rural High Schools; assisting teachers and principals in setting up non-curricula ICT education where there is not enough infrastructure to have a curriculum; as well as other programs such as Enterprise Development, Skills Development, and visits to higher learning institutions for cementing memberships with student chapters as well as lobbying Government institutions to transform policy in favour of the previously disadvantaged in this sector.
