Crookes Brothers Limited

2013-05-02

The Crookes family has a proud legacy as pioneers in the South African sugar industry, initiated by the arrival in Port Natal in 1860 of 21 year old Samuel Crookes from Finningley in Yorkshire, England. Samuel, a wheelwright by profession, started farming cane in the Scottburgh area in 1865, and rapidly expanded his farming interests in the area. In 1913 his sons, George, John and Joseph, incorporated Crookes Brothers to consolidate part of the family interests and in 1948 the company was listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

The year 2013 will mark 100 years since the incorporation of Crookes Brothers Limited, a rare achievement that stands as a tribute to the family, the company and the many people who have contributed to realising the vision of Samuel Crookes. In this time the group has established an enviable reputation for excellence, integrity and community support. We pride ourselves in respecting the finest traditions of this heritage, taking the principles of independence, honesty and reliability forward into a modern, professional and successful future.
