The annual signature event of the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business, the Nedbank PCB Business Awards, staged on Friday night at the Royal Show, was a rollicking success with opera, comedy, lucky draw prizes and great food livening up proceedings. The main attraction was the business awards that recognised some of the city's leading companies for their exceptional performance.

The winners are:

Business of the Year (Manufacturing Sector): Pressure Die Castings.

(Retail/Professional Sector): Capitol Caterers;, runners-up: Poobie Naidoo's Sports Wholesalers and Midlands Medical Centre.

Medium Enterprise of the Year: Brink Towing Systems

Small Business of the Year: Retail Sector - Coffeeberry Cafe
Professional Sector: Akeso Clinic (Pietermaritzburg)

Franchisee of the Year: PSG Wealth and PSG Employee Benefits Midlands
Champion Entrepreneur of the Year: Pravashen Naidoo (eWaste Africa)
State Owned Enterprise of the Year: Umgeni Water

Social Enterprise of the Year: The Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA); runners-up - Youth for Christ, Singakwenza Education and Health.
