Durban- Africa’s Smart Fashion City

2014-09-02

The City of Durban has recently hosted the 3rd Annual Durban Fashion Fair. Amongst the well-known designers who showcased their designs were Massimo Crivelli (Milan), David Tlale, Nguni Shade, Thula Sindi, Africa collection, Zarth, DFF collection (interns) and many more.

Deputy Mayor and Chairperson of Economic Development and Planning Committee, Cllr Nomvuzo Shabalala said the City was proud to host such a wonderful event and the positive contribution fashion continued to make in positioning Durban as Africa’s Innovative Smart Fashion City.

“The Municipality has made it possible for our designers to share runways and stages with the world’s best designers, models and have firmly put Durban on the global platform. Thus far, our designers produce some of the most creative and brilliant designs, and soon we hope to see many of them competing with the world’s best,” said Shabalala

Shabalala says the fashion industry remains at the core of the eThekwini Municipality’s efforts to revitalize the textile industry, which has a potential to employ many people. “So the DFF is not only about promoting local designers, but it fits in broadly with our economic development strategy and our response to the call by President Jacob Zuma to work even harder to grow our economy in order to meet the basic needs of our people, especially job creation.”
