Join us as we discuss The Recycling Value Chain with our local leading economists: Urban-Econ:
Urban-Econ Development Economists has been commissioned by eThekwini Municipality’s Economic Development and Investment Promotion Unit (ED&IPU) and Cleansing and Solid Waste Unit (also referred to as Durban Solid Waste or DSW) to undertake a recycling value chain analysis for eThekwini.
The ultimate purpose of this research is to examine the status quo of cardboard and paper, glass, building waste, e-waste, tyres, metals, cans, and plastic recycling in eThekwini across their value chains. The research will determine practical and relevant interventions that will:

Enhance the management and recycling of waste

Provide support to the formal waste recycling sector

Improve the livelihoods of informal recyclers

Enhance the collaboration between spheres in the eThekwini Municipality

Ultimately stimulate economic development through the creation of a robust recycling sector

Provide employment opportunities in both the formal and informal sectors
