Durban Chamber - Work Integrated Learning (WIL): Request for partnership

2016-03-08

CALL FOR PATRIOTIC EMPLOYERS WHO ARE WILLING TO CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS SOUTH AFRICA’S COMPETITIVENESS THROUGH SKILLS REVOLUTION!

Africa Mayibuye Leadership, a Durban-based leadership and management consultancy, has secured funding for an 18-month Work Integrated Learning (WIL) project aimed at providing support to unemployed N6 graduates from TVET Colleges towards experiential learning which is a mandatory requirement for the completion of their studies. In Durban alone, there are over 900 former public TVET College students who qualify for the 18-month inservice training under the auspices of WIL.

In line with South Africa’s Vision 2030, as articulated in the National Development Planthe National Skills Development Strategy III, the Skills Development Act, the Continuous Education and Training Act 16 of 2006, the Provincial Growth and Development Plan and the municipal Integrated Development Plan, we call on every patriotic employer to offer an in-service training opportunity to at least one N6 graduate from any of the three (3) Durban-based public TVET Colleges. The disciplines in which the N6 graduates have been trained include: civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, business management, marketing, management assistance, financial management, HR, public management and tourism. Attached is the breakdown of skills available for in-service placement per TVET College.

Host employers are expected to sign the attached WIL Agreement thereby committing to provide a mentor to each learner placed in their workplace for experiential learning for a period of 18 months commencing in March 2016. As the lead employer, Africa Mayibuye Leadership will pay each placed learner a monthly stipend of R1 800.00 for 18 months!

To participate in this WIL project, employers are requested to contact writer as per the details in this letterhead, our Manager: Operations, Mrs Thembo Majola, on 072 759 4357 / 031 327 3200; her e-mail address is: thembomajola@africamayibuye.com or my PA, Ms Maria Centeio on 031 327 3200 or via her e-mail at: mariacenteio@africamayibuye.com
