OPEN LETTER TO THE MEMBERS OF THE DCCI’s WESTERN AREA BUSINESS FORUM

Dear Western Area Durban Chamber Member 

As you may know I was elected to the Chair of the Western Area Forum (WAF) a few months ago. Since then, the Durban Chamber hosted two very well attended meetings, and, at the outset, I would like to thank those members who attended either or both of these last two Western Area Forum (WAF) Meetings. We, the WAF can only thrive through active participation and involvement, and my wish is that we all should be part of and benefit from a thriving business forum. 

My desire is to make a real difference to you, the business community of eThekwini West; hence this open letter. To make a difference, requires that the business fraternity make their voices heard, so that we, as the Chamber, can take up your concerns and represent your interests no matter where, i.e. whichever government department, local authorities, SOEs and through our national business structures, at provincial and national levels. 

As you know, the country, the City of Durban and the vast majority of businesses are currently facing major challenges. Together, we can work to improve the business climate; together we can roll up our sleeves and combat business and societal challenges; together we can overcome the obstacles of inclusive economic growth; together we can address the challenges facing us as a business collective. 

However, to realise these noble ideals, we need active business citizenship. By this I mean, that we commit to attend the WAF meetings, that we resolve to raise issues so that suggestions to deal with these issues are aired and shared. Only then can the WAF, and by extension, the Durban Chamber thrive!
