eThekwini Municipality Launch of Passbook Competition
2013-03-15
The eThekwini Municipality invites members of the media to attend the Launch of the Passbook Competition, aimed at encouraging school pupils to visit our historical sites.
Currently seven Local History Museums (LHM) fall under the stewardship of the Municipality, namely; Bergtheil Museum, Cato Manor Heritage Centre, KwaMuhle Museum, Old Court House Museum, Old House Museum, Pinetown Museum and Port Natal Maritime Museum. Each site is unique in content and characteristics, however a common thread called heritage joins them.
Grade 6 and 7 learners from 30 different schools around the eThekwini Municipal area have been invited to take part in the competition. Each learner will be given a “passbook†which will be stamped every time they visit one of the above-mentioned sites. To qualify for the Final Draw learners from individual schools will have to visit at least four of the sites between April and June 2013.
Qualifying schools will then be entered into a lucky draw where the first prize winner will receive a grand prize worth R10 000. There will also be individual prizes for learners based on a quiz that will test their understanding of what they saw and experienced at the different sites.
The aim of the competition is to not only create awareness about the different heritage sites, but to introduce a fun and interactive way for school learners to learn about their history and heritage.

Date: TUESDAY, 19/03/13
