The eThekwini Municipality’s Electricity Unit would like to notify residents of Klaarwater about a planned power outage on Sunday, 9 June 2013 from 12pm to 4pm.

The Municipality will shut down the high voltage circuits feeding from the greater western Durban fed from its Klaarwater Major Substation. Permanent repairs have since been carried out and an outage is required to restore the system to full capacity. This needs to be undertaken to commission a plant that was taken out of service due to a fault on Sunday 19 May 2013.This fault was caused by a 132 kV cable failure. Load was shifted onto the remaining circuit and power was restored later that night. The second circuit was being driven at full capacity and it is suspected that this resulted in a latent failure in the 132 kV cable termination.

A temporary repair was carried out in order to restore supply to the affected areas. 1Permanent repairs have since been carried out and an outage is required to restore the system to full capacity. The Municipality delayed this outrage to accommodate the Comrades Marathon and lessen the impact to the affected residents and businesses. Special consideration has also been given to students studying for their mid-year exams.

The Municipality would like to apologise in advance to citizens for the inconvenience.
