eThekwini Municipality - The Renaming of the Japanese Gardens2013-11-13 The Municipality would like to place it on record that the Council has approved the renaming of the Japanese Gardens. However, no new names has been confirmed as the public consultation process is still to begin.
“Calls for members of the public to make submissions about the name options will be advertised through various media in due course. This will include the provision of a brief on social cohesion, highlighting the importance of inclusivity to the residents of eThekwini Municipality. These names will then go through various Council processes before a final decision is made,†said the Deputy City Manager of Community and Emergency Services Cluster The Municipality has commenced with the upgrading of the garden and the main objective is to see it become a hive of activity to achieve the City’s goal of Social Cohesion. The Japanese Gardens was named as such because of the nature of the design that resembled the Japanese style. The garden at this stage does not really reflect or resemble that particular style anymore.
