eThekwini Municipality-ENHANCING SKILLS OF LOCAL FASHION DESIGNERS

2014-11-04

Following the success of the Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) in unearthing talent, the Municipality is introducing a new mentorship programme to further grow the fashion industry in the City. The programme aims to expose designers to various fashion skills required to enable them to be successful in the fashion industry.

EThekwini Municipality is inviting interested designers and fashion houses to apply to participate in the mentoring programme.

The City’s Arts, Craft and Fashion Manager, Sindi Shangase, said the programme aims to empower local fashion designers and facilitate market and networking opportunities to ensure growth and sustainability of their fashion businesses.

She said the ten month programme would consist of several phases such as a business development workshop, a five-day international industry workshop, participation in upcoming fashion shows, pop-up shops and much more.

Shangase added: “A detailed presentation will be held on Wednesday, 05 November 2014 between 14h00 and 16h30 at SEDA, Asgisa Hall to provide detailed information about the programme to those who are in the industry and those who are interested to participate in the programme.”

Applicants are urged to indicate if their businesses are registered. If not, the Unit will assist the designers with the process of registration through the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda). They need to provide the following:

•Company profile

•Individual profile/CV. Attach copies of matric certificate and diploma/degree certificate/s;
