eThekwini Municipality - Durban Transport bus drivers end strike

2015-01-06

Durban Transport bus drivers have agreed to return to work, putting an end to their strike action, which led to the disruption of bus services in eThekwini Municipality.

The bus service, operated by private operator, Tansnat is expected to resume its full operations from tomorrow morning.

On 31 December 2014 the majority of bus drivers downed tools and the service was running at a skeleton scale. However, owing to incidents of intimidation, including the firing of shots towards a bus in Ntuzuma on Thursday, 01/01/2015, all drivers then decided from Friday, 02/01/2015, not to get behind the wheel.

The operator has assured the Municipality that the drivers have all been paid their salaries and annual bonuses.

The Municipality is engaging with the operator to find a permanent solution to the challenges.

The Municipality wishes to apologise to all commuters for the inconvenience caused.

ENDS
