eThekwini Municipality - City Ready to Host the MultiChoice Diski Challenge

2015-01-29

The Municipality is geared up and ready to host a bumper weekend of sports, as stars-in-the-making will be battling it out during the quarter final stage of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, taking place at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday, 31 January and Sunday, 01 February 2015.

Law enforcement agencies have confirmed that the necessary plans have been put in place to ensure that the tournament will continue without any hassles.

The Challenge, launched at the Princess Magogo Stadium, KwaMashu, in September 2014, has seen developmental sides from all 16 Premier Soccer League (PSL) teams going through the elimination stages. Eight teams remain in the Challenge.

The Municipality has partnered with MultiChoice in the quarter finals of the tournament as part of its commitment to sports development in the City, facilitate the evolution of young players into PLS teams and encourage healthy living.

Mayor, Cllr James Nxumalo, said that hosting events of this nature was a confirmation that the City is indeed Africa’s leading Sports and Events capital. “Our City is known for producing legendary soccer stars. Bringing this tournament to our shores will not only showcase our beautiful City to the world, but most importantly, it will expose our youngsters to how sports can be a vehicle to reaching greater heights through determination, discipline and perseverance,” said Nxumalo.

Entrance is free. Tickets can be collected from any Computicket or Shoprite/Checkers outlets, at no cost. Members of the public will be required to produce some form of identification when collecting tickets.

Soccer lovers coming to the stadium also stand a chance to win complimentary tickets to Ushaka Marine World.
