eThekwini Municipality - CLERMONT TO HOST REGIONAL BUSINESS FAIR

2015-08-14

EThekwini Municipality in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs will be hosting Regional Business Fair at Clermont Sports Centre from Friday, 21/08/2015 to Sunday, 23/08/2015.

This event follows three successful Regional Business Fairs that have been recently hosted in various regions of eThekwini, which recorded more than 26 000 prospective buyers and visitors.

Small businesses and members of the public will receive inspirational talks from well-known business specialists and private and government institutions who will share valuable business information on how they can expand their businesses.

Regional Business Fairs are an initiative by the City to expose small and emerging entrepreneurs to the market place and provide them with skills that will enable them to compete globally.

This platform creates an enabling environment for the small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) to further develop their ideas and grow viable businesses through networking, mentorships, business training workshops and capacity building seminars in order to further grow the City’s economy.

Deputy Mayor and Chairperson of Economic Development and Planning Committee Cllr Nomvuzo Shabalala said, “The recent Quarterly Labour Force Survey, released by Stats SA has ranked eThekwini Municipality as having one of the lowest unemployment rates of 16.5% in the country South Africa compared with other municipalities”.

The Deputy Mayor said that this shows the commitment by the City to invest in SMMEs as they are the backbone of the City’s economy.

“We consistently creating sustainable employment opportunities for the ever growing population of the Municipality,” Shabalala said.

The exhibition will run concurrently with Business Indaba to give SMMEs an opportunity to network with other experienced business experts and get innovative advice on how to grow a viable business.

Shabalala added that the fair will assist small businesses in the Inner/Outer West Region to come up with solutions on the socio-economic challenges in our communities through economic opportunities that are available in this region.

The event is open to the public and they are encouraged to support the locally produced products available at the Fair. They are set to benefit from the business tactics and information that will be shared by business experts from various established businesses during the Business Indaba.

Entrance to the exhibition and Business Indaba is free!!
