eThekwini Municipality - Beach Clean-up campaign to celebrate National Marine Week

2015-10-15

As part of the National Marine Week Celebrations, eThekwini Municipality in partnership with various stakeholders will clean-up the coastline from Virginia Beach to the Blue Lagoon River Mouth and along the beachfront.

The clean-up is targeted at not only ensuring cleanliness of the coastline, but is also an opportunity to educate members of the community about the importance of preserving marine life and the impact pollution has on the economy, tourism and everyday life. The clean-up will be followed by a formal programme where Mayor James Nxumalo will give the keynote address.

Marine Week is celebrated annually. It is aimed at creating awareness on the marine and coastal environment, the promotion of sustainable use and conservation of these resources, for the benefit of both present and future generations.
