ethekwini Municipality - City’s high level business platforms to expose local entrepreneurs to global markets

2015-10-16

The highly successful two-day Durban Business Fair (DBF) Seminar where local entrepreneurs were empowered by local and international speakers, has given impetus to the City’s long term economic development interventions to advance small businesses.

Various platforms created by the Municipality have ensured that local businesses are given the opportunity to tap into global markets.

Members of the media are invited to join the Deputy Mayor of eThekwini Nomvuzo Shabalala, Global Inspirational Speaker and Author Ms Iyanla Vanzant and the Essence Empowerment Festival team when they officially open the DBF exhibition tomorrow, Friday, 16/10/2015 at Durban Exhibition Centre.

Shabalala said: “For the past two days we have brought powerful and experienced local and international entrepreneurs to share their business expertise with local entrepreneurs and now we are opening a platform for them to sell their products to more than 15 000 visitors expected to visit the exhibition with 15 international countries partaking in this year’s DBF.”

The first day of the exhibition will kick-off with the DBF Excellence Awards in the evening where Ms Iyanla Vanzant will deliver a keynote address about running a successful business in a changing economic environment and developing society.

Vanzant will also use her motivational talks to inspire entrepreneurs by giving them valuable business advice.

The awards are divided into four categories namely the Women Owned Business, Youth Owned Business, Rural/Township based business and SMME excellence award.

The awards will also honour an entrepreneur whose business has grown through exhibiting at the DBF since its inception with a ‘Long Standing Award’.

Shabalala said the awards were established last year to encourage creativity and innovation among entrepreneurs and to also motivate small businesses to work harder to grow their businesses.

“The winners will receive great prizes that they can use to ensure that their businesses become a success,” said Shabalala.

Everyone is encouraged to attend the free exhibition and purchase locally manufactured goods. The exhibition will end on Sunday, 18/10/2015 and will run from 8h00-17h00.

Members of the media are invited to cover both equally important events. Details are as follows:
