eThekwini Municipality - ETHEKWINI GEARS UP TO CELEBRATE GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURIAL WEEK

2015-11-11

Global Entrepreneurial Week (GEW) is anticipated to empower thousands of emerging eThekwini entrepreneurs by providing valuable business tips, sharing knowledge and possibly source funding and sponsors to help get their businesses off the ground.

The event will run from 16to 20 November 2015. Throughout the week, various business activities will be held at numerous Municipal locations.

The programme will also focus on leadership trainings, highlighting critical areas entrepreneurs need to understand as well as provide guidelines to drive women entrepreneurship and economic growth.

Deputy Mayor and Chairperson of the Economic Development and Planning Committee Nomvuzo Shabalala said: “GEW is the world’s largest celebration of innovators and job creators. It also helps with the launch of start-up businesses that bring ideas to life and drive economic growth.”

Shabalala said in order to fulfil the government call of uplifting businesses, the Municipality has partnered with established companies such as KPMG, Shanduka Black Umbrellas, International Labour Organisation, Nedbank and ABSA among others to create an enabling environment for networking, coaching and providing much needed training.

“For the entire week entrepreneurs will be provided with a suitable platform to state their business challenges and receive solutions on site on how they can best shape and advance their businesses,” Shabalala added.

She said the City was going all out to drive entrepreneurship as a job option to address the issue of unemployment.

The first 100 budding entrepreneurs to register for GEW activities will qualify to participate in an eight week online crowd funding course offered by the International Labour Organisation. The course will take place next year.

Various programmes are planned throughout the week to celebrate GEW. On 16 November 2015, a Business Advisory Training seminar and a Transformational Leadership seminar will be held. The following day, delegates can attend a Youth Agenda in Driving Entrepreneurship Seminar.

On 18 November 2015, aspirant businessmen can learn how partnerships can help your business grow.

The final day, 20 November 2015, a seminar on Women Empowerment: be an agent of socio-economic advancement.
