2016-08-16

Packed with water saving technology, energy saving gadgets, recycling alternatives, food and water wise garden advice and ideas, the Sustainable Living Exhibition will make it easy for you to green your lifestyle, save money and conserve the environment.

More than 250 exhibitors showcasing their greening products and services are expected at the event that will take place from 19 -21 August at the Durban Exhibition Centre.

The bumper exhibition is a partnership between eThekwini Municipality and the KZN Botanical Society who hosts the Indigenous Plant Fair.It comes at a time when the region and the city are facing water cuts due to the severe drought.

The event promises to be a fun, educational and informative showcase of all things green, environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Some of the highlights include a shipping container that has been converted into a boardroom showing the public an example of sustainable solutions to water, energy and building materials.

You can visit the Go-Durban stand to learn to more about the City’s vision for an efficient public transport system.

The Fashion Show by Durban University of Technology Design students is another not-to-be-missed feature on the programme. This is where students show off their creativity by designing garments made from recyclable material.

Another highlight is the presentation by well-known Ayurvedic doctor, Dr RajenCoopen, who will be giving tips on proper nutrition for school going children. This will take place at 2pm on Friday, 19 August.

There is something for everyone at the event with activities for both young and old planned including talks, demonstrations, puppet shows, quizzes and movies.

The exhibition provides a perfect platform to inspire people to start living more sustainably. Simple actions such as recycling, saving water and electricity, planting an indigenous tree and a food garden will go a long way in conserving the environment and addressing food security.

The public is urged to bring unwanted clothes, books, toys and shoes for donation towards a worthy charity.

Make sure you don’t miss it.Entrance is free and open to all.
