eThekwini Mayor pay His Majesty a visit to introduce the new Municipal Council2016-09-21 A high powered delegation from eThekwini Municipality and the African National Congress eThekwini regional leadership visited Enyokeni Palace in KwaNongoma yesterday, 20 September 2016, to introduce the newly elected leadership both in the Municipality and the ruling party.
The delegation, led by Mayor Zandile Gumede; members of the Municipality's executive, regional secretary of the ANC in eThekwini Bheki Ntuli, other councillors and members of the regional executive committee. Also in attendance was City Manager Sibusiso Sithole. Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Ntuli said it was important for the newly elected leadership to introduce themselves to His Majesty. "The King is known for his passion for the holistic development of his people. It is important to tap into the wisdom and passion of the King and consider his input as we strive to deliver quality services to the people and ensure the empowerment of all," said Ntuli. Ntuli said the regional leadership of the ANC and eThekwini Municipality is honoured that this year's Umkhosi WeLembe will be held at Moses Mabhida Stadium on 24 September. This event will mark 200 years of the unification of the Zulu nation and 45 years of the reign of His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini. Ntuli said the leadership team will make regular visits to His Majesty to keep him up to date with the work of empowering his people. His Majesty congratulated all political parties that are represented in Council. He said elected public representatives must ensure that the promises they make during campaigning are realistic and can be achieved. He said people become frustrated when their representatives fail to deliver on their promises. But, he said, when councillors go back to consult and give feedback to the community, this builds hope and a sense of a united purpose. He felt the municipal elections held on 23 August 2016 were free and fair barring a few challenges in some areas. His view is that if we can unite on a common purpose of leading our country in an exemplary manner in the African continent and beyond, no external force would be able to shake us. He believes we should build a resilient country for future generations. His parting shot to the new leadership was they should lead with integrity at all times and not seek popularity over compliance.
