The Maritime School of Excellence (MSoE) is an accredited training institution of the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA); Transport Education and Training Authority; and the leading provider of highend training in the Port and Maritime sector.

Strategically located in Durban (the biggest port in Africa) and with satellite campuses in Richards Bay, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, the MSoE is carving out a position as the premier provider for marine

When you join MSoE, you are in the hands of experienced mentors and training staff such as Harbour Masters, Marine Pilots, Tug Masters and Port Engineers, and Terminal Operators. During the various training courses, learners will experience the multi-million rand full-mission Ship Handling Simulator. This technology is installed at the Maritime School of Excellence satellite campus in Durban. It is used to train Marine Pilots and Tug Masters, bringing them up to par with the International Standards Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) requirements and refining their skills with refresher training.

In addition, the MSoE has Terminal Operations Simulators, RTG Crane, as well as the Shipto-Shore Container crane will provide learners the real-time ability to operate, manoeuvre and familiarise themselves on all terminal related equipment and machinery.

Additional simulators such as Reach Stacker, Counter Balance, Mobile Harbour Crane, Rail Mounted Gantry, Straddle Carrier and Truck handling Simulator will be available to add to the elite training provided by the Maritime School of excellence.

The learning and employment opportunities that the MSoE will create for not only Transnet but also for the industry, South Africa and the maritime industry, aligns closely to the deliverables of the market demand strategy.

Maritime School of Excellence has attracted the attention of marine entities seeking training interventions from across the continent including Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Namibia and Cameroon.

Whilst the internal Transnet skills demands from the school have increased over recent years, the institution is also respected among customers and academic institutions for external training, as well as research and development services to the broader maritime industry.
