African Renaissance - Teeing off to America:Courtenay James

2016-05-20

Courtenay James attended Crawford College La Lucia and matriculated in 2015.

Courtenay applied and was offered a place at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia, United States of America to study for a general business degree. Her undergraduate studies will take four years and will commence this fall.

She said, “My biggest highlight so far has been getting accepted into my first choice university, which was
Columbus State University and to being offered a scholarship over and above that.”

Courtenay added, “My passion is to play golf and since prep school I have always wanted to play for an American university. Especially because America has become the heart of golf there is no better place
to go to improve my game and get a degree at the same time, so it’s the best of both worlds.”

She said, “The challenges I’ve gone through in the process of applying for college abroad is the long hours research I’ve had to do on each college as well as the large amounts of paperwork for admissions, which include the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), applying for visas etc."

Courtenay James concluded, â€œMy biggest tip for success would be to do loads of research. There are thousands of universities so don’t only focus on trying to get into the top ranked ones. Find one that is well fitted for you taking into account the location, weather, culture and academic or sporting levels.”
