With the high volume of women and their children seeking accommodation and support, the resources of the shelter are badly in need of replacement/ refurbishment. Food as well as the general upkeep of the establishment is an on-going challenge.
2. LAUNCH OF THE PHOENIX CHILDWELFARE HOMES FOR CHILDREN
Our second beneficiary is The Phoenix Child Welfare, a registered welfare organization for the past 37 years, providing much needed services and support to impoverished families in Phoenix and surrounding townships.
These include welfare services focussing on unemployment, child protection, family violence, safe shelter for abused women and their children, apart from the daily handling of numerous cases of child abuse, neglect, as well as admission of children to places of safety and/ or youth care facilities.
This year Phoenix Child Welfare has undertaken to establish two community homes for abused and abandoned children (one for girls and the other for boys). This is in response to the ever-growing increase in child abuse and neglect in our communities and the absence of safe havens for children needing emergency care and accommodation.
The SOUTH AFRICAN WOMEN'S FORTE has committed to assisting these two worthy organizations in their sterling effort to provide much needed protection to women and children against society's evils.
However, for the SOUTH AFRICAN WOMEN'S FORTE to put together a major fundraiser that will benefit TWO OUTSTANDING ORGANIZATIONS UNDERTAKING SUCH A MAMMOTH RESPONSIBILITY, will require a great deal of assistance from all of you - the generous individuals and organizations of our community.
We are aware that many of our concerned members of society, although generous and empathic, lack the time and the resources to actively participate in initiatives such as ours. Hence, our proposal to engage your support in respect of financial assistance, gifts or prizes that we could auction, raffle or bequeath upon our guests who pay and attend our fundraising events in the various games or draws that we put together to enhance our function/event.
We have an active workforce of dedicated women who are always willing to give off their time and resources to co-ordinate the various projects and functions that will assist members of our communities cross the various hurdles and overcome the challenges that life throws at them.
We humbly appeal to you/ and your organization to assist the SAWF in making a difference in the lives of those desperately in need.
Yours Faithfully
Kalai Pillay (President)
