Commercial Work
TDH’s commercial work in the private sector has expanded in the last 18 months. The company has been a preferred software development outsource partner for Dimension Data doing work for Engen and uShaka in the last two quarters.
TDH primary focus for the remaining two quarters of 2008 and first two quarters of 2009 is the completion of some of their commercial system developments. TDH have received a sizable grant from the DTI for one of their current application developments. The product (named Genesis) is an innovative light-weight Business Intelligence Tool that is able to sit on top of any data source (e.g. DB2, SQL Server,Access, My SQL, Oracle, etc). It produces powerful filtered transactional reports, analytical tables and accompanying charts all within minutes of registering the selected data repository with the tool.The product empowers the user to create customised reports from their data which would usually necessitate the skills of a report writer. TDH plans to exhibit Genesis at CeBIT (Europe largest IT tradeshow) in the second quarter of 2009 and the company believes it is a strongly competitive product in both the local and international arena.
TDH also have a parallel development of a software product for the SMME market and are submitting an application for the 2008 FNB/Enablis Business Launchpad Competition for the roll-out of this software.
Corporate Social Investment
TDH supports several Public Benefit Organisations by developing and maintaining systems for free or at reduced costs.
TDH practically and financially supports a local PBO/NGO called Goodwill Industries – this organisation works with unemployed labourers and assists them to find employment in businesses in the city. TDH management personally serves at the weekly feeding point in the city for unemployed men and women.TDH has also developed a paper based and electronic database to collect information from the unemployed labourers in order to assist with job linkage.Goodwill has been responsible for thousands of meals being served and hundreds of job placements over the past 2 years. TDH has provided free office rental and the free use of computers, telephones, photostat and printing facilities to Goodwill Industries since it’s inception inApril 2006.One ofGoodwill’s staff is permanently situated at TDH’s offices and takes care of all the administration responsibilities for the job linkages.
Future Focus
The focus on commercial products for the remainder of 2008 is a strategy to ensure revenue growth into 2009 so that TDH is wellpositioned and resourced (in terms of cash flow and developers) to ensure that the company can engage with more organisations in the social sector for the development of effective management and reporting systems for this sector.
TDH also has requests for expansions of two existing systems and the possibility of a large international development in the form of a Donor Fund Management System. They will continue their support and maintenance of current applications in the field.
TDH’s goal as a business is to be a model to others in the linking of the rich and poor - the bridging of the developed world with the developing world and first world economies with third world economies.They want to be a positive, practical change agent in seeing unemployed, marginalised and disenfranchised people linked with job vacancies and empowerment opportunities in the marketplace.
The company’s desire is not to grow into a large ICT corporation that loses the values it was built on but rather to remain an agile and committed team who continue to give themselves to system and relational excellence.They are a small key that is opening BIG doors.
