Thornwood Lodge is situated in a malaria free area in the Southern Waterburg, just 40km outside of Warmbaths on the R516. We hire the lodge out to groups.
We can accommodate private groups and small functions, family reunions, workshops, etc. The Lodge is 2 hours from Johannesburg and can accommodate 16 people, in the 3 chalets and 2 loft rooms (provision can be made for 4 more).
Self catering with fully equipped kitchen. Bedrooms serviced daily. Lapa and kitchen serviced 2x daily. Braai wood supplied, bring extra for your bon fires.

What Our Guests Think
RULES AND INDEMNITY
* Guests at Thornwood Lodge must hand in official permit to the person in charge, and be shown their accommodation.
* Key and breakage deposit of R500 to be paid before arrival.
* Firearms must be declared may be stored in the safe in the house for safe-keeping .
* Guests may only drive on approved roads at 25km /h - some areas of road can only be transversed by a 4×4. Roads are rocky .
* Feeding of the animals is prohibited.
* Small pets are only allowed in special circumstances .
* Children must be supervised at all times .The pool has no fence.
* Smoking in the chalets , veld and on walking trails is prohibited.
* Garbage bins are provided , please do not litter.
* No open fires are allowed except in the boma.
* The braai barrel ,or any other fire holder may NOT be removed from the boma.
* Accommodation may be occupied from 14h00 on the day of arrival and must be vacated by 12h00 on the day of departure.
* Guests are not permitted to remove wood, plants , rocks or any other items from the veld.
* Do not remove bedding, towels or tea tray items from your room.
* Check the inventory list for your chalet and the kitchen when you arrive and before you leave. This may not be accurate due to on-going breakages.
* Please report any shortages or breakages to management, or these shortages may be charged to you.
* Please read the signs and close the entry gate behind you.
* Thornwood, or its staff are not responsible for any loss or damage occurring on the property. This includes injury, theft or death.
* A deposit for games room equipment, pool /table tennis ,can be obtained for R100.00 refundable deposit. Bring your own darts.
* Arrival times must be confirmed and arrival must be before 8pm.

Chalet 1
2 Bedroom
The Leopard Room is the largest of the thatch chalets. It has a double bed in the main room ,with a smaller room accomodating two single beds. The separate bathroom consists of a shower. basin and toilet. The chalet has a tea/coffee tray and you can enjoy a cup of tea while you sit on the bench on the porch , enjoying the silence of the bush.
The bedding consists of sheets and a blanket ,with a throw for summer. An extra blanket is supplied for each bed , and is packed in the cupboard.
Rooms are smoke -free ,but smoking is allowed on the porch if the sand ashtray is used. There is also a fire extinguisher in each room.
The room is serviced each morning when the room is vacated.
Chalet 2
1 Open Plan Room- Sleeps up to 4
The Guinea Fowl room is a single room with a shower ,basin and tiolet included.. The room has 4 single beds with bedside tables and lamps. It is recommended as a group venue , ie 4 ball golfers, family , children groups.
Each bed is set with sheets, a blanket and a throw. Two pillows are supplied. The room has a tea tray and a two seater bench outside for you to enjoy the outside . Smokers are requested to only smoke in this area using the sand ashtray. There is a fire extinguisher on the luggage stand.
All accomodation is serviced each morning ,when the room is vacated.
Chalet 3
1 Bedroom
The Kudu room is a single room with a shower ,basin and tiolet included.. The room has 4 single beds with bedside tables and lamps. It is recommended as a group venue , ie 4 ball golfers, family , children groups.
Each bed is set with sheets, a blanket and a throw. Two pillows are supplied. The room has a tea tray and a two seater bench outside for you to enjoy the outside . Smokers are requested to only smoke in this area using the sand ashtray. There is a fire extinguisher on the luggage stand.

Loft 4

The Gecko Loft room is a single room situated above the lapa area and accessed by a flight of stairs.. The room has 2 single beds with a bedside table and lamp. It is directly above the shower , toilet area on the ground floor. The ablutions are not on suite but are situated downstairs. Tea and Coffee are availible downstairs in the kitchen.
Each bed is set with sheets, a blanket and a throw. Two pillows are supplied. Extra blankets are also situated in the rooms . Smokers are requested to only smoke on the deck or at the boma using the sand ashtray. There is a fire extinguisher at the stairway and one in the kitchen.

Loft 5

The Chameleon Loft room is a single room situated above the lapa area and accessed by a flight of stairs.. The room has 2 single beds with a bedside table and lamp. We have kudu, blesbok, impala, eland, gemsbok, zebra, bushbuck, nyala, steenbok and duiker. There are transient baboons, monkeys, porcupine, caracal, jackal, warthog etc.

The Pool Area
The rim-flow pool is situated close to the lapa and is most appreciated during the heat of summer. The pool area has lovely views and the guest can lie in the sun on the loungers and enjoy both the pool and the sounds of the bush.

Games Room
Below the lapa is the games room . There is a pool table and a table tennis table . A deposit is required for the equipment . The darts board is at the bar ,darts are not supplied- bring your own together with your DSTV card for TV in the lapa.
The lapa also houses the bar -(there is a liquour licence if purchases are required.)
There is a separate male and female toilet in the lapa.

Deck
There is a lovely view from the deck in the lapa. The view is south facing and one can see sunrises on your left and sunsets on your right over the Mabula hills. The aminals can be seen from the deck , especially in winter when the veld is thinner.

Self Catering
Thornwood Lodge is a self catering venue. Guests can cook in the fully equipped kitchen, on electricity or gas, or braai outside in the boma. The kitchen contains enough utensils for about 20 people . It has fridges and deep freezers and a microwave, kettle, toaster etc. The kitchen is serviced early in the morning, before breakfast and then again later at lunch time.

General Activities
Besides the activities availible in the vacinity, and those at the lodge, visitors may just want to walk in the veld. The main dirt roads are safe and easy to follow. The road is rocky and in places will only suit a 4×4 vehicle or bicycle (your own).
The game paths are easily visible in winter and can be followed to get nearer the game . The road also follows the boundary and a walk along here is about 3-4 km .
Other routes that transverse the property can also be followed.
