SUNCOAST maintains a gold status on their Environmental Management System

2013-10-18

Suncoast Casino, Hotels & Entertainment (SUNCOAST) has maintained their Gold Class status in the Heritage Environmental Management Programme for their outstanding Environmental Management System (EMS), with energy saving lighting being their biggest contributing factor including water, waste, air management and responsible procurement.

SUNCOAST is a proud member of the Heritage Environmental Certification Programme which recognises environmental excellence according to how effectively the activities are implemented and demonstrated the activities in compliance with the Heritage standards. A minimum score of 75% compliance with Heritage standards is required for Gold Class properties, and according to the Heritage Environmental Management Programme there must be demonstrable efforts to ensure continual environmental performance.

Mike Dowsley, SUNCOAST Executive Director said, “We aim to manage our resources in a sustainable manner and promote green practices as far as possible.”

Dipika Deoduth, Compliance Administrator at SUNCOAST said “Our lighting is our biggest contributor to the electricity consumption, the bulk of our lighting in our complex has been converted to Light Emitting Diode (LED), therefore reducing our energy consumption as measured against previous years.”
Deoduth further said “our LED lights consume much less energy and are 90 percent much more efficient than incandescent or fluorescent options”.

â€œWe are committed to ensuring that our activities become responsible and efficient with the use of energy and electricity across all operations,” added Deoduth.

SUNCOAST is also proactive with their employees in communicating the effective environmental management of consumption through project measurement and conservation efforts on complex. SUNCOAST’s environmental management commitments include hazardous waste being disposed of responsibly by accredited waste service providers who ensure that our chemicals do not harm the environment, as well as appropriate air quality management procedures to manage and control emissions throughout the complex, including the smoking casino.

The complex aims to promote conservation and biodiversity of fauna and flora on the property by applying environmentally responsible practices. At SUNCOAST, relevant suppliers are required to complete an environmental supplier declaration in order to establish if the environmental standards are in line with their Gold status level, which they are determined to up hold.
