University hopefuls have until 12 January 2018 to apply for sponsorship of registration fees by Ithala SOC Limited.

The Ithala Education Fund was recently established to assist academically-deserving, historically disadvantaged youth who cannot afford to pay registration fees, to access tertiary education under the theme #LeaveNoStudentBehind.

Selected first year students who meet the qualifying criteria and who furnish acceptance letters from institutions of higher learning for the 2017 academic year are encouraged to apply for sponsorship of registration fees.

Applications are subject to the following criteria:

• Applies only to first year students
• Acceptance letter from University or TVET College is furnished
• Parent’s combined income must not exceed R150 000 annually

Application forms can be downloaded at www.myithala.co.za or requested from the nearest Ithala SOC Limited branch. Completed application forms must be emailed to educationfund@ithala.co.za or posted to Ithala SOC Limited Head Office, PO Box 2588, Durban, 4001 with the reference “IEF 2017: ITHALA EDUCATION FUND” on or before 12 January 2018.    

Ithala SOC Limited, whose mandate is to serve ordinary South Africans and help them to manage their money and create wealth, is a 100 percent owned subsidiary of Ithala Development Finance Corporation.

“The growing number of applications has been encouraging and students are still welcome to apply for funding until 12 January,” said Sandile Xolo, Ithala SOC Limited’s Marketing and Communications Manager.

“The selection process for applications received thus far has started and we would be delighted to afford more students an opportunity to shine in their careers.

Thanks to Ithala, six bright KwaZulu-Natal students were given a jumpstart to their academic careers when their registration fees were sponsored in 2017. The financial services provider aims to assist greater numbers of students to realise their dreams by removing the registration fee barrier to tertiary education.
By being a Student Account holder with Ithala, 20 cents  is donated towards the Ithala Education Fund for every rand from the revenue generated on account transactions.

With more transacting student account holders, Ithala would be able to extend the generosity to greater numbers of qualifying students.
