Videovision’s PRIDE shines at the BAFTAs

2015-01-09

Pride, the comedy drama distributed by Videovision Entertainment in South Africa, received three British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award nominations, it was announced earlier this morning. The film received nominations for Outstanding British Film, Supporting Actress (Imelda Staunton) and Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for writer, Stephen Beresford and producer, David Livingstone.

Pride, which will be released in South Africa next Friday, 16 January 2015, is inspired by an extraordinary true story. It’s the summer of 1984 and much of blue-collar Great Britain is on strike. For one tiny Welsh village, the strike brings unexpected visitors â€" a group of London-based activists who decide to raise money to support the strikers’ families and want to make their donation in person. In this feel-good, heart-warming comedy, two groups seemingly from worlds apart, discover that standing together makes for the strongest union of all. Pride is directed by Matthew Warchus and features a popular British cast including Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton and Paddy Considine.

Sanjeev Singh, director of acquisition and distribution for Videovision Entertainment commented, “We are thrilled with the three BAFTA nominations for Pride. This feel-good film also received a Golden Globe Nomination last month.  It has charmed audiences around the world and we expect the film to rake in more nominations during this awards season.”

Pride is a Videovision Entertainment release through United International Pictures (South Africa).
