Willowton Group - Sunshine D reduces fat and salt content for improved health benefits

2017-11-08

Pietermaritzburg-based Willowton Group has announced a 10% reduction in the fat content of its popular Sunshine D spread range, as well as a lower salt content, resulting in improved health benefits for consumers of this delicious product.

Sunshine D, an all-purpose spread, has dropped from a 50% to a 40% fat content while retaining its associated nutritional benefits in the form of vitamins A, D and E. This energy-rich product will also provide customers with the smooth, great taste for which Sunshine D is renowned. The move is in line with current industry trends which is seeing a reduction in salt and fat across all light and medium-fat spreads and margarines.

“We believe that we have developed the tastiest 40% spread in the market, by reducing the fat and salt content of the 50% variant, without significantly impacting the nutritional value of our quality product,” said Deon Calthorpe Customer Executive of Willowton Group.

Market leaders in edible oil products, Willowton Group is committed to continuously improving the health of consumers. Through its ongoing support and awareness programmes, Willowton Group was awarded the Platinum Seal of Appreciation by the Heart & Stroke Foundation of South Africa, lending its support to the fight against South Africa’s leading non-infectious killers.

“Willowton Group is committed to innovation that leads to improved health and well-being, while also being mindful of the difficult socio-economic situation of many consumers,” continued Calthorpe. “We have improved the taste, reduced the fat and salt content and have also, in the process, kept the product affordable for our valued customers.”

The new Sunshine D 40% Fat Spread was launched at select stores countrywide in September and was very well received by consumers. It is now available for purchase in the tub packaging with the brick variant set to hit the shelves early in 2018.
