Toyota Warrior Race - Challenging You To #BEMORE

2018-04-25

Set against a backdrop of pristine beaches, unspoiled forest, rivers and estuaries, lies the Blythedale Coastal Estate.

It is the perfect setting for an adventure, and the ideal location for the next Toyota Warrior Race, powered by Reebok.

The Warrior Race burst onto the scene in 2013 and immediately spearheaded the meteoric rise of obstacle racing in South Africa.

It quickly grew to up to 9000 participants per event and remains at the forefront of the growth spurt in the fledgling sport of obstacle racing, with its larger than life obstacles and innovative courses to challenge South Africans.

After coming to the area for the first-time last year, the Toyota Warrior powered by Reebok discovered that obstacle course racing on the beach is a major hit! Now on the 14th and 15th of July, they will be back and bigger than ever. Competitors, either as individuals or as part of a team, will once again be challenged to #BeMore and conquer carefully chosen obstacles that extend over a specific trail.

At Warrior Race, you will be challenged by world-class obstacles that will involve jumping off a 6m/4m platform into water, crawling through mud under a wire fence, battling up slippery slopes and running or swimming across water obstacles. However, this event offers so much more…it will also host the very first South African Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) Championships!

The South African OCR community has grown at an intense rate over the last couple of years, not only in numbers, but also in competitiveness, which is why the Toyota Warrior Race, in conjunction with SA OCR and endorsed by Obstacle Course Racing World Championships, decided to host South Africa’s first ever Obstacle Course Racing Championships.

The timing is right for an event like this, and we cannot think of a better location to host this highly anticipated weekend, than at Blythedale Coastal Estate. Merely 20 minutes north of Ballito along the Dolphin Coast, this one thousand hectare property development offers lifestyle living with 3.2km of unspoiled beaches, tranquil forests and a pristine river frontage.

The OCR Championship will be open to two separate divisions, Pro and Age Group. The Pro Division championship will utilise the 15km Black Ops Elite competition, with the top three male and female athletes being awarded cash prizes as well as free entry into the Pro division of the 15km World Championships in London, England, made possible by The Warrior Race and SA OCR.

The Age Group championships will utilise the 10km Commando Elite division, with top male and female athletes from each age group being awarded cash prizes, as well as free entry into the Age Group division of the 15km World Championships in London, England, made possible by The Warrior Race and SAOCR.

The Warrior weekend is a fun-filled family affair. There is something for everyone to enjoy â€" from groups of friends, family members, and pro athletes, to young adventure-seekers, who can play to their hearts’ delight in the Warrior Kids Zone under the supervision of child-minders.

Corporate packages are available for a one of a kind team building experience, should your team be up for the challenge.

The popular Reebok Sprint Race, one of the crowd favourites, will be a key feature of this event, which involves a shorter course, high-speed action, and big prize money. The 2017 Warrior Race series saw the introduction of this short course to the already diverse range of Warrior racing categories to take part in. This gives even more people the opportunity to experience obstacle course racing, with a shorter, faster and
highly intensive obstacle course which has been developed to give athletes a different platform in which to show their metal.

With three different race categories on offer, the event caters for all levels of fitness â€" Rookie, Commando and Black Ops. According to the Warrior Race, one of the reasons why obstacle racing is so popular is because anyone can participate.

All you need is a pair of old running shoes and a sense of adventure. What makes obstacle racing unique is that it is one of only a few opportunities for athletes from different sporting codes, to compete against each
other on a level playing field.

The Warrior Weekend promises to be filled with OCR action, and if you want to unleash your inner warrior, simply go to www.warrior.co.za for more information and to enter yourself and your fellow warriors.
