Dave Savides - Global Awards For Richards Bay Port And Coal Terminal2018-04-25 The 4th annual Global Ports Forum Awards held in February 2018 in Dubai saw Richards Bay firmly in the spotlight.
The port was named Africa's Port/Terminal of the Year, with Port Manager Preston Khomo accepting the award. The Port of Richards Bay, which celebrated its 40th anniversary last year, has earned other recent accolades, including the Top Performance Award at the 2016 Transnet Group Chief Executive's Awards. It is South Africa's leading port in terms of cargo volumes, handling 99.2 million tons and 2 000 vessel arrivals recently. TNPA Chief Operating Officer, Phyllis Difeto, a highly qualified advocate who has been COO of TNPA since 2014, clinched the award for Woman of the Year in Ports and Terminals. Coal terminal shines Richards Bay Coal Terminals (RBCT) was declared winner in the classification Bulk Logistics Port Terminal of the Year. RBCT CEO, Alan Waller and General Manager Operations, Jabu Mdaki were delighted to receive the accolade. 'RBCT is proud of the accomplishment, one of our many remarkable achievements which are testament to the effective and efficient operations RBCT is known for,' said Waller. 'This award inspires us to continue in our endeavours to move coal passionately through a world class terminal.' Judging panel The Global Ports Forum (GPF), launched in Singapore in 2008, recognises the valuable contribution made by professionals in different areas of the ports and terminal industry and acknowledges their roles and achievements in 53 categories. The judging panel was made up of global ports council members. Guest of honour at the awards was Mohammed Sharaf, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Economic and Trade Affairs of the United Arab Emirates and former Group CEO of Dubai Ports World Group.
