The lecture gave MBA students an introspective look into the bank’s performance management approach, financial management and the various strategies adopted to ensure business growth. Schwegmann, who has been employed by Nedbank for 29 years, said it was important for industry experts to share their knowledge with students to ensure that they had a realistic view of the business world. ‘Being an academic and knowing the theory aspect is great but you also need to be aware of the practical applications. It is important to see how that theory is applied in business,’ said Schwegmann. Linking the presentation to strategic management assignments, students took the opportunity to use what they had learnt in the classroom and engaged with Schwegmann, asking him thought-provoking questions. GSB&L’s Dean and Head, Professor Stephen Migiro, said the School aimed to produce well-informed graduates by involving practitioners and experts in business management and in leadership fields in its delivery model, thus blending theory and practice. ‘The lecture was an enlightening learning experience for everyone who attended as every organisation requires a strategy and techniques to measure performance. It is important for students to possess the ability to translate what they learn from our experts in the classroom into the working world which is why we are looking forward to hosting many similar presentations in future,’ said Migiro. |
