Ithala SOC Limited - Ithala partners with "My Best Childhood Foundation" in R1.5m project

Previously disadvantaged individuals in KwaZulu-Natal are the recipients of education-based programmes made available through a partnership between financial services provider, Ithala SOC Limited, and My Best Childhood Foundation.

At least 20 schools identified within the Coastal, Midlands and Northern regions will be supported through the programme.

At a launch event held recently, several strategic partners including the media and retailers demonstrated their support for the initiative which is set to benefit this vulnerable group.

The Foundation aims to improve the wellbeing and development of abused children from previously disadvantaged backgrounds by providing a conducive environment in which the future generation of children can learn and thrive.

Mayville Primary School in Berea, Mafukuzela Primary School in Umlazi and Lamontville Primary School, south of Durban, are among the schools to be targeted.

Investment towards the project is estimated at R1,5 million and Ithala's involvement will include:
  1. A feeding scheme that will make provision for food packages valued at R600 per learner
  2. The supply of seeds, fertilizers and tools to sustain a vegetable garden
  3. Installation of the school's signage
Speaking at the launch event, Sandile Xolo, Ithala SOC Limited's Marketing and Communications Manager, said Ithala was determined to assist previously disadvantaged communities and to ensure their growth. He added that "one of the greatest achievements a business can ever have is to be able to look back and see how far the entity has come - not only measure success by high profit margins but rather by how many people have been empowered and developed in the journey".
