Development of up-market hotels with a mix of Zulu cultural activities

2002-10-08

: NONOTI / INQABA COMMUNITY TRUST
The aim of the Nonoti/Inqaba Community Trust is to develop the area for tourism. A land claim on a site adjacent to Blythdale was settled in 2003, and 500 hectares of prime beachfront land with lagoon frontage, valued at R105-million, has been transferred into the Inqaba Community Trust.
Approximately a quarter of the land is to be kept for human settlement and the other half developed within the broad framework of tourism. This land is earmarked for the development of up-market hotels with a mix of Zulu cultural activities. Conference and restaurant facilities are also planned. A design concept valued at R2.5-billion is already in place, and estimates are that the development will create employment for 100 people from  the local communities.
Location
The land fall in Ilembe District Municipality, specifically the KwaDukuza (Stanger) Local Municipality, 69 km north-east of Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal province.
