The majority of indicators experienced positive increases on a monthly basis

2010-04-08

The majority of indicators experienced positive increases on a monthly basis, however in most cases they are still negative on a year-on-year basis.  Must remember Jan and Feb are normally "low" months.  The economy should start picking up over the rest of the year.  However, it will still be some time before the economic growth will translate into real benefits (profits, jobs, etc).

Also please find below websites wrt economic and other research in the province.  Very good stuff.  Have a look.  Feedback is always very welcome and much appreciated.

Some recent US economic Headlines (US economic picture)

1) March headline employment looks good--but detail is mixed

2) Personal income stagnates

 3) Motor vehicle sales rev up

4) Consumer confidence improves

 5) Manufacturing sector is still the bright spot of the recovery

6) Construction sector declines--likely abetted by bad weather

7)  Home prices continue to edge up

The Bottom line for SA:

The recovery is still on but mixed as the consumer sector is tepid, manufacturing strong, and construction still in recession.
