Mayor Nxumalo congratulates Premier and all Legislature office bearers

The Mayor of eThekwini Municipality, Cllr James Nxumalo, has congratulated Senzo Mchunu on his election as the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal and the Members of the Provincial Legislature, after they were sworn in at a ceremony that was held today, 21/05/2014, at the Provincial Legislature in Pietermaritzburg.

Nxumalo said Mchunu’s appointment brings about an element of continuity and will enable the province to move forward with speed in terms of fast-tracking service delivery in the province.

“Our government’s focus is now entirely on the ‘overdrive’ of service delivery and the appointment of Senzo Mchunu as Premier, means that now we are going to hit the ground running in terms of service delivery acceleration. We have confidence in his counsel and leadership and he has proven over the last few months that he is capable of leading this province to even greater heights,” he said.

Nxumalo also went on to congratulate the 52 members of the African National Congress (ANC), who will be assuming office in the Provincial Legislature in particular the Speaker Lydia Johnson as well as Deputy Speaker Dr BM Radebe.

“The team of Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs) also inspires confidence in that the Premier will have a capable support structure that will enable us to move our province and South Africa forward. As the nucleus of our Province’s economy, The Municipality of eThekwini and all its citizens will work with the newly elected Premier in order to qualitatively change the conditions of our people for the better.”

Ends.

Issued by the eThekwini Municipality’s Office of the Mayor.
